How To Correctly Install A Telespar Signpost
Everything Required for a Quick and Simple Installation
Correctly installing sign posts offers several advantages, such as improved safety in locations where signs are placed, reduced labor expenses due to faster installation, and minimized time workers spend near active traffic along roads and highways. Below is a brief guide outlining how to efficiently install a sign post and sign using Telespar’s two-piece assembly system.
The first step in installing a sign post is ensuring you have all the necessary materials. You’ll need the two-piece assembly system, which includes an in-ground sign post base and a Telespar post insert. Additionally, you’ll need a power post driver with a Drive-Cap (explained in more detail later), the sign itself, rivets, and a corner bolt with a nut. Once all materials are ready, you can begin the installation process.
Start by selecting the appropriate Drive-Cap. Confirm that the Drive-Cap matches the post shape, round or square, and is compatible with your chosen installation method. If you’re installing the post using a sledgehammer, a Manual Drive-Cap is required. For those using a Power Post Driver, Power Drive-Caps are the proper choice. A link to available sign post installation accessories will be provided at the end of this guide.
Next, drive the sign post base into the ground, leaving a portion of the post exposed above the surface, approximately two inches for optimal stability, but no more than the FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) maximum of four inches. After positioning the base, secure the sign to the post using rivets. Then slide the assembled sign post into the in-ground base. To complete the installation, insert the corner bolt with the head facing away from oncoming traffic and tighten the nut. Your sign post installation is now complete.
Success! You’re finished!
Beyond the previously mentioned benefits, Telespar’s breakaway sign post system is designed so that, in the event of a collision, the sign falls away from the vehicle, helping to reduce potential vehicle damage and driver injury. Additionally, Telespar posts are easy to replace after an accident. Simply remove the damaged post from the base, insert a new post and sign, and secure it with a new corner bolt and nut. This design also makes it simple to update or replace road signs without repeating the entire installation process.
Happy Installing!
